Fitting In

With the banquet coming up next week and all the talk about demos and such, I've started to contemplate exactly where I am going to fit in on the Horse Team. One of the reasons that I decided to sign up for the I Ho Chuan in the first place was that there wasn't really a prerequisite for a certain level of skill. A white belt can perform an act of kindness just the same as a blackbelt. Same goes for pushups and situps. But there are other things that a white belt can't do just the same as a black belt. Weapon forms and sparring are things that I have not been taught yet. I'm also curious about how someone of my level of skill will be able to contribute to a public demo without making a mockery of the whole thing. Surely there must be a standard of quality for public demonstrations. I guess all of my questions will get answered once we start into the new year. I'm really looking forward to being on the team with a bunch of cool people and doing some amazing things.

  1. Everyone has something to contribute, it doesn't matter what color their belt is. I look forward to learning all things you will bring to the team!

  2. Don't worry about these things. Once you're with us for a few classes, you'll realize we're all in the same boat. We all struggle with different things and are there to help each other. If you have any questions, ask. It's a great, non judgmental group of people. I'm able to spar at orange belt level and SUCK. I pretty much stand there and get hit a lot. So, we are all learning. :) Most of the people you see with weapons, it's their first time with that weapon too. As far as public demos go, I have a huge fear of doing them and haven't done one yet. No matter what issue you may have, there will be someone to help if you're willing to talk about it. :)

  4. Thanks for the advice. :)
It seems odd at times when you're reading a blog written by someone that you don't really know and they talk about personal things. I always feel like I'm doing something I'm not supposed to. But I guess the whole point of blogging is for them to be read by others.
