Dealing With Injuries

It's been a long time since I have felt this bad, physically. My shoulder problems seem to be never-ending, my knees hurt, the tendonitis in my elbow is getting worse every day, and I don't remember what it feels like to be 100%. I'm getting treatment for my shoulders and elbow but nothing seems to be improving at the moment.

Through all of the frustration I'm trying to stay positive and just do what I can. I feel that if I can continue to make progress regardless of injuries, just imagine what I can do once I'm healed up. If nothing else, I'm learning not to take my health for granted. I'll be 40 in February so I'm starting to think that training with injuries of some kind is going to be my reality from now on. Maybe I will have to redefine what it means for me to be 100%.

  1. Sometimes it's really hard to be patient with your body. You'll get there. You might just have to make some changes in your routine. Practice makes perfect, as they say.

  2. I had to try a few physio therapists before I found one to be helpful. Alot of my problems were a result of having inbalanced muscle strength from working out the same muscles too much and not enough of other supporting muscles. (I'm probably not explaining correctly) basically they gave me more exercises and deep tissue massage and I healed up a lot quicker. I still have some problems but it's way less than before.

  3. First of all educate yourself on which foods cause inflammation and rid those from the diet replacing them with foods that reduce inflammation. Next, give your body time to heal and yes it takes time. Are you getting enough quality sleep?
As the body gets older, it needs to train differently than what it did during the 20's years. One of the big differences is adequate rest so that the body can heal itself. Give the body rest and it will come back stronger than what it was before.
Massage, chiropractic, acupuncture go a long way in having a body be injury free.
Lastly, and most important, listen to your body and be very much in tune with it. There is no reason not to be injury free.
